Backstory III

July 23, 2023 - August 13, 2023

The Bible is full of important stories of real people’s interactions with God. Unfortunately, some of these stories are often taught only to children, with simplified moral lessons to make them easy to digest. While these stories do teach vital truths about God that are important for kids to understand, they hold a level of nuance and vibrancy that make them especially relatable and helpful to adults who are tackling the challenges of faith. During this four week series, we’ll explore some of the most interesting stories of the Old Testament that you may not have heard since Sunday school, and see how they can help people of all ages grow closer to Jesus.

In our culture, it’s easy to think that the issues we’re the most passionate about or against are the most important issues. But God wants us to remember that He’s the most important thing, and that giving him our singular focus would lead to a much stronger and more life-giving connection. How do we take the necessary steps to center our lives more on God? This week we’ll talk through a famous story from the Old Testament of the prophet Elijah, and learn the value in letting God alone have the most important place in our hearts.
