What if your greatest opportunity to change someone’s life is simply helping them find their way home? As we conclude the New Testament letter written by Jesus’ brother Jude, we’ll discover the hope of a God who is able to keep us from falling—and who invites us to extend that same mercy to others. Join us for the final week of Horizon as we learn what it looks like to live with confidence, compassion, and our eyes fixed on the horizon.
Discussion Guide

Before we begin, let’s take a quiet moment and pray for God’s direction for our time together. Then we’ll take a couple of minutes to go around and share where we’ve seen God at work in our lives this week. Specifically, how were you able to apply the action steps from our last time together? To remind you, they were: 1. Eagerly correct one area of counterfeit spirituality in your life. 2. Model God’s marvelous grace to someone who could benefit from it.
Introduction
This is the third and final week of our series Horizon, exploring the New Testament letter of Jude. We’re looking at how we can stay oriented on Jesus when the waves of life toss us around in different.
This week, we finish Jude by looking at how we can find our way back to God when we have lost our way. We can also help others find their way home to God.
Connect
Let’s start our discussion time with some “get-to-know-you” questions.
- Have you ever gotten lost while driving, hiking, or traveling? What happened?
- What’s something in your life that requires regular maintenance or attention to keep it working properly?
- When you realize you’ve gotten off track with a goal or habit, what usually helps you get started again?
Opening
Sometimes we imagine that losing our way spiritually happens because of one terrible decision or a major crisis. But it often happens gradually. We get busy and we stop making time for God.
We become distracted, discouraged, or comfortable with things we once recognized were unhealthy. Before long, we may realize that our relationship with God isn’t where we want it to be.
The New Testament letter of Jude encourages us to look in two directions. First, look inward. We need to pay attention to our spiritual health, recognize where we may be drifting, and intentionally strengthen our connection with Jesus. Second, help outward. We’re not meant to navigate our spiritual lives alone. God invites us to care for one another, offering compassion, encouragement, and sometimes loving correction when someone is losing their way.
Both of these directions lead us to our main idea for the week.
Together and with Jesus, we can find our way back to God.
Unpack
Read each set of verses out loud as a group, making observations as you go. Afterward, discuss each of the connected questions before moving to the next set of verses.

Jude 22-25
Near the end of his letter, Jude encourages Christians to show mercy to people who are struggling with their faith and to carefully help those caught in destructive patterns. He closes by praising God’s power to keep his people from falling away.
- In verses 22-23, what different instructions does Jude give for helping people who are struggling?
- In verses 24-25, what does Jude say about God’s character and power?
- How might knowing that God is able to keep us from falling away change the way we think about our own spiritual struggles or those of someone we love?
Read
Proverbs 27:5-10
In this passage, the writer describes the value of honest friendships, including friends who care enough to tell us difficult truths.
- What contrasts does the writer make between genuine friendship and relationships that may seemloving but aren’t?
- What qualities of friendship are highlighted in these verses?
- What might make it difficult to receive loving correction from someone who cares about us? What could make it easier?
Read
Hosea 14:1-4
In this passage, God invites his people to return to him after they’ve wandered away. Rather than rejecting them, God promises forgiveness, healing, and renewed love.
- What does Hosea tell the people to do to return to God?
- What does God promise to do for those who return to him?
- What does this passage reveal about God’s attitude toward people who have drifted away from him?
Action Steps
This is where we take what we’ve discussed and put it into practice! Read the action steps below and discuss how you can live them out this week in practical ways.
Commit to a new step of regular internal spiritual practices.
Consider which of these spiritual practices could help you reconnect with God:
- Build up your faith. Stretch yourself spiritually by doing something that helps you grow in your relationship with Jesus and express his love to others.
- Pray in the Holy Spirit. Make time to talk honestly with God, listen for his direction, and consider what he wants you to pray about.
- Practice patient anticipation. Spend time reflecting on God’s promises and looking forward to the good things he has planned, even when life feels uncertain.
Which practice could you begin or strengthen this week? What specific time or opportunity could you set aside for it?
Prayerfully take a love-fueled step of mercy or rescue for a loved one this week.
Think about someone you care about who may be struggling spiritually. Perhaps they were experiencing doubts, asking difficult questions, feeling disconnected from God, or making choices that are damaging their lives. What might they need from you right now? Ask God to give you wisdom to recognize what would be most helpful, along with the humility and love to respond well.
Share with the group one action step you will take this week. Be specific.
Closing
Following Jesus is not something we’re meant to do alone. God invites us into a growing relationship with him and into meaningful relationships with people who can encourage, challenge, and support us along the way. As we grow in our faith we can learn to recognize God’s work in our lives, develop spiritual habits that keep us connected to him, and become people who extend his love and compassion to others.
Pray Together
As we wrap up, we’ll invite anyone who would like to share something we can pray for together. You can share or just pass. Also, below is a Journey of Faith Missionary we can pray for as we close.
